ANALYSIS OF THE MOVIE SEEN IN CLASS "DIECISIETE"
Tittle: "Seventeen"Hector is a 17 years old boy, who steals for a living. As a result, he was placed in a juvenile detention centre. Here he lives in isolation and has no friends to rely on. Here, Hector, becomes part of a reinsertion therapy with dogs and maintains a special relationship with one of them.
One day, the dog doesn't come back, because he has been adopted, something he should be happy about. But Hector doesn't understand that thanks to him he has a family. Far from being happy, he is convinced that the dog is his family. This is how Hector decides to escape from the centre, dragging his older brother Ismael on a singular journey to find the pet.
On one hand, during the film, the brothers, who are at opposite poles, change roles. Ismael, the eldest, is the one who does things the way they are supposed to be done, he is the one with the most integrity and the one who wants to teach the younger one how life works, but he is equal or even more lost than Hector, he has conflicts that he doesn't know how to resolve and he has carry on with responsibilities that don't correspond to him. So we understand throughout the film that Hector can be more sensible even though he is in a juvenile centre and commits all kinds of illegalities.
On the other hand, it is not mentioned in the film but Hector suffers from an autistic spectrum disorder. I think the film focuses on this type of kids that society or their environment classifies as "weird", who suffer social exclusion and bullying, in many cases, and claims that nobody cares about making a diagnosis or helping them in a therapeutic way to be socially integrated.
