(Second term) Storytelling, games, theatre and representation project

THREE LITTLE PIGS (STORYTELLING AND REPRESENTATION)

Monday 16th January of 2023

Today we have started brainstorming, we have taken a sheet of paper and we have been writing down several ideas that we could do. We had a lot of doubts because this work is going to be a bit more complicated, as we had to separate from our old group and do it alone, Inés, Teresa and I.

Finally, we decided to represent the story of the three little pigs with puppets, this way it would be much easier being so few, as we could represent several characters at the same time.

Once we had the main idea, we all started to make the story and the dialogue in English. We took ideas from some internet pages, so that we could adjust our dialogue as we liked, using simple vocabulary and introducing more complex words.

Today we also went to the multi-purpose room to see what resources we had available, and we found a puppet theatre that would be perfect for us, we took the measurements so the next daywe could start making the scenery according to the space we had.

Tuesday 17th January of 2023

Today we continued doing the dialogue, as it is a very important part of the performance and we wanted it to be perfect and well structured.

Today we had an idea to make the performance more dynamic and we decided to have several interactions with the children during the performance of the story with the puppets, this way it will be funnier for the children and much easier for them to be attentive to the story. As the story is a bit long, this is to attract attention in case there is a child who starts to  disturb and distract the others.

These interactions are part of the performance and can take place at any time or in case they are necessary. Some examples we have added are:

- What do you think? The third litte pig liked the idea or not?

- Do you think the third little pig went to play? Are you sure? Let´s listen to him.

- So, did the little pig find this or this? Very well! He found bricks! (Señalando el material correcto)

Wedneday 18th January of 2023 (Only the second hour)

Today we have finished the dialogue and interactions and we have started to decorate the stage. We began with the idea that we were going to decorate the back area with several cardboards where the different scenes were going to be drawn but finally this idea was discarded since it was going to be very difficult to hold and to change the cardboards at the same time that we were handling the puppets so in the end we decided to do a neutral immovable background and to do the different elements of the history separately (the sun, the straw house, the brick house, the trees...).

Although we still don't know if we are going to add some sticks to the elements and take them out when the text indicates or surround the frame of the theatre with velcro and stick them on (leaving them sticking out) to leave the hands of the two people who handle the puppets free.

Inés and teresa have been making the three houses (The straw house, the sticks house and the bricks house) in pencil to paint them later on, I have been making several different trees for the backgruond decoration.

Monday 23rd January of 2023 casas, y sol

Today we continued with the decoration. Inés and I painted the houses to make them as realistic as possible while Teresa made a giant sun with different shades of yellow and orange out of cardboard.

The houses were a difficult process as we painted them with finger paint and it took a long time to dry which didn't allow us to continue painting certain parts or underpainting to give some details, so it delayed us a bit.

Tuesday 24th January of 2023

Today between Ines and Teresa we finally finished painting the three houses and cutting the sun.

Wedneday 25th January of 2023 (Only the second hour)

Today Ines and I have been putting the finishing details to the houses with a black marker to make them look as realistic as possible while Teresa was cutting them out when a house was finished.

While she was waiting for us to finish, at the same time she was making the sketches of what was going to be the chimney and the pot where the wolf falls and burns his tail at the end of the story. As it had less work than the houses she finished earlier and tomorrow she will continue painting them and giving the last details.

Monday 30th January of 2023

Today at the beginning of the class while Teresa finished colouring, underlining with the marker and cutting out the chimney and the pot, Ines and I started to separate the document into several aspects to be dealt with and to divide them between the three of us, to make it more practical.

After we had divided it up among the three of us, I took out my computer and worked on the document until the class was over.

While we were working on the document we were discussing new ideas that came up and we decided on the main activity together.

MAIN ACTIVITY

The main activity consists of a team game. In the game, we can find two different parts, the main part is the one in which we will work on the vocabulary from the tale of “The Three Little Pigs”.

In this part, the teachers will ask for different words that appear in the story in order to work on the new vocabulary. The children will have different pictures on their tables, and they will have to select the image that corresponds to the word we ask about.

There will be different rounds and, as we move forward, the difficulty of the vocabulary will increase.

Between rounds, the second part of the game will appear. In this part, the educators will draw cards with "Special Questions". These will be used either as a resource to motivate teams that are a little behind in the score, offering them the opportunity of making up points, or as motivation for teams that have just gained a point, to get a double score.

Tuesday 31st January of 2023

Today I couldn't come to class because I was really unwell, but my classmates have been working on the document in their respective parts and on making a title that we are going to put on the front of the theatre on a blue cardboard, we have done the sketch but we still need to colour it and give it some details.

This day I had the idea of making a kind of points counter with cardboard on which we will put the points that each team wins with velcro, we will do the numbers on the computer and then print and liminate them. This would be very original and visual for the little ones.

Wednesday 1st Febraury of 2023 (Only the second hour)

Today we have finally started with the most interesting part of the work. Yesterday when I finished studying around 20:00 pm I went to the Asia Store to buy the material we needed (I bought felt: light pink, dark pink, red, green, blue, black... and pink thread to be able to sew the puppets), to take it all to class today and to be able to start making puppets!

We had the idea of making the 3 little pigs and the wolf so that it would be simple and not too expensive. The main idea of the piggy would be the one in the photograph, but we will give it a personal touch. We had thought of putting a different coloured dungarees on each pig to differentiate them and make it easier for the children, as well as putting their respective materials on their hooves.

For the wolf we had thought of making a sock puppet, so that our hands would simulate his snout. But little by little we will be giving it shape.

Today we have done few things as we have had little time, but we have been able to cut out the silhouettes of the piglets from behind and in front ( so 6 silhouettes) and the eyes, nose and ears.(Hacer foto de los ojos orejas y narices)

Monday 6th of Febraury 2023

Today we have continued making the puppets. I have been cutting out the pupils of the eyes, the noses, the ears and the dungarees of the little pigs and then gluing them with hot silicone that Clara lent me.

I also took the opportunity to take some photos, upload them to the blog and help Inés and Teresa. They have been sewing the faces of the puppets´ bodies with pink thread, I haven´t been able to because there were only two needles, although tomorrow we will bring more so we can all collaborate in the sewing, as it is a more complex task.

We have decided to add dungarees to the pigs in different colours to make it much more visual and easier for the children to identify and differentiate each pig, we have also added a pocket so each pig can carry their respective materials in it.

Tuesday 7th of February 2023
Today Inés had to go home because she was feeling very ill and her tummy hurt a lot. So while Teresa finished gluing the eyes and sewing the dungarees, I was drawing and cutting out the letters of the title that we are going to put in the theatre.
We also took the opportunity to get some work out of the document and we managed to get most of our sections done.

Wednesay 8th of February 2023
Today we had almost two intense hours of theory. And in the end, between one thing and another, we didn't have time to make much progress on the work. Teresa and I continued giving some details to the title that will be placed in the theatre, rounding off the letters and finally, we spent the rest of the time working on the document.

Monday 13th of February 2023

Today Teresa has not come because she is in Paris having a great time, while Inés and I have made some kind of boards in shape of clouds where the points of the different teams will be represented. As I told you, after the theatre we are going to do a game of questions and answers so we will need to divide the class into groups and each group will be a different colour. We have made 4 clouds (4 groups), orange, yellow, green and pink.

On the other hand, on green and red cardboard we have drawn numbers from 1 to 10 four times, these are the numbers that each group can reach but we haven't had time to finish them and cut them out.

Tuesday 14th of February 2023

Today Cristina gave an hour of theory and another hour was dedicated to the work. We had little time but we made good use of it.Then we have continued underlining and cutting the clouds and drawing some boxes in the clouds so the children know where to put the numbers.

Today we have also been thinking about the design of the wolf, and we have decided that we will do it with a sock and Teresa has started to make the ears and teeth of the wolf.

Wednesay 15th of February 2023
Today we only had one hour of work and we tried to make the most of it. Ines has been working on the document and I have decided to sew some parts of one of the puppets that was not finished, at the end I realised that I am not good at sewing, so Ines had to start sewing while I finished the document.

Teresa has continued designing the wolf and making some parts of it. These days we will have to finish the document and make it look prettier and finish the wolf to finish the work.

Wedneday 22nd of February 2023
These three days we have been very stressed with the exams, and Cristina has let us study since we had all finished our work. She did us a big favour because I was so overwhelmed and couldn't concentrate. So on Sunday morning we finished the work.

Sunday 26th of February 2023

Today the three of us met at Teresa's house at 9 am. First we had to go to the ASIA STORE to buy blutack, cardboard and a brown sock. We had to wait outside for 1 hour for them to open in minus 5 degrees but finally we got everything we needed. We saw some socks that were 5 euros, it was very expensive but we got a bargain in a basket of everything for 1 euro and we bought some socks for 0.50 cents.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 When we had bought everything we went back home and Teresa and I started to add blutack to the points so we could stick them on the cardboard while Ines finished making the title and cutting it out. Then Teresa had to unpick a puppet and sew it back on because it was a little bit wrong and in the meantime, Ines and I started to make the wolf puppet with the sock. To start with, we glued cotton wool inside the sock and then put another one on top to make the shape of the head, then we added the eyes, ears, teeth and the tongue with felt.

Finally, we took advantage of the last hour we had left before we left for lunch, to practice the presentation two or three times.
